Tuesday General Session:
When it is Your Own
Billi Jo Baneck
- Brown County Public Safety Communications
Billi Jo started her dispatch career in 2008 in Green Lake. Ironically, she was in 40-hour basic class when she learned her family home had been attacked by a deadly fire. Her mother, father, and youngest brother were killed while her younger sister and brother were left critically injured. In that moment, she became the matriarch of what was left of her family. It was the Red Cross that stepped in to help her learn how to recover in the face of personal tragedy and disaster; rebuilding her own life while caring for her younger injured siblings.
She learned disaster response firsthand as a survivor and will share Red Cross services and processes with her family’s story as the back drop.
