Public Records Law Training and Update:  Public records remain a difficult area of the law for every municipality and their records custodians.  This presentation will discuss recent developments including legislative proposals, police body cameras and video retention issues and an update on legal developments involving the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA).  The program will also include break-out sessions and roundtable discussions.

Remzy D. Bitar is a shareholder at Crivello Carlson, S.C.  The firm has received a Tier 1 rating from US News and World Report – Best Lawyers as a “Best Law Firm” in the area of Municipal Litigation. As a leader in the firm’s Municipal and Civil Rights Team, he handles all aspects of litigation in both state and federal court including trial and appeals.  His experience ranges from defending lawsuits against law enforcement and jails, to handling condemnation, zoning and other land use matters, to open records and open meetings law, and to the defense of municipalities and their officials and employees in civil rights litigation including the First, Second and Fourth Amendment and Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses.  Remzy joined the firm after completing a judicial clerkship with the Supreme Court of Missouri for the Honorable Laura Denvir Stith. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Milwaukee Bar Association, the Wisconsin Defense Counsel, and the Defense Research Institute.  He is a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton and Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.  In addition to his work here, Remzy has co-chaired the Milwaukee Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section and served as President of the Milwaukee Insurance Adjuster’s Association.  Remzy is also a member of the American Inns of Court, an organization of trial lawyers devoted to improving the skills, professionalism, civility and ethics of the bench and bar in our community. Remzy has also accepted several pro bono assignments including a current appointment as a Board Member on the Bell Tower Memorial, a nonprofit corporation seeking to build a bell tower memorial in Pewaukee, Wisconsin as a tribute to veterans and loved ones (www.belltowermemorial.org).  A frequent lecturer on topics including municipal, civil rights and constitutional law along with litigation related matters, Remzy has been honored on several occasions to appear in the Wisconsin Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” and in the Milwaukee Magazine as a “Best Lawyer.”
